Is this service free?
Yes. All public inboxes on InstantNum are completely free to browse and use. There are no sign-up fees, no subscriptions, and no credit card required. You can receive SMS verification codes and one-time messages at no cost. We support this service so that developers, testers, and privacy-conscious users can access temporary numbers for legitimate verification and testing purposes.
Are messages private?
No. Public inbox messages are visible to everyone who opens that number's inbox. Because the numbers are shared, anyone can view the same messages. For this reason, you should never use these numbers for banking, email recovery, two-factor authentication on important accounts, or any service that involves sensitive data. Use them only for one-time verifications, testing, or low-risk sign-ups where privacy of the message is not critical.
What is a disposable or temporary phone number?
A disposable (temporary) phone number is a number you use for a short time to receive SMS or verification codes without giving out your real phone number. On InstantNum, these are shared public numbers: many people can use the same number and see the same inbox. They are ideal for testing apps, one-time sign-ups, and protecting your personal number from spamâbut they are not private and should never be used for sensitive accounts.
Can I receive verification codes for WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, or other apps?
Often yes. Support depends on the app and on which numbers are available. Some apps only send SMS to certain countries, so choose a number from a supported country. If one number doesn't receive the code, try another number from the same countryâtraffic is shared and some numbers work better than others. We also offer a Services page where you can browse numbers commonly used for specific apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Instagram.
Why are some messages missing?
For safety and to protect users, we may filter out certain types of sensitive messagesâfor example, those that appear to be from banks or that contain password-related content. If you need such a message, you must use your own private phone number. Missing messages can also occur if the SMS was sent to a different number or if there is a delay; try refreshing the inbox or using another number.
Do you support sending SMS or receiving calls?
No. InstantNum is for receiving inbound SMS only. You cannot make or receive voice calls, and you cannot send outbound SMS. The service is designed for one-way reception of verification codes and text messages. If you need voice or two-way SMS, you will need a different type of phone number provider.
What if my SMS is delayed or doesn't arrive?
SMS can be delayed by a few seconds to a few minutes. Wait a bit and refresh the inbox. If the message still doesn't appear, try a different number from the same countryâhigh-traffic shared numbers can be slower. Some services also throttle or delay verification SMS; in that case, waiting and retrying on the same or another number often works. For banking or critical codes, use your personal number instead.
How do I use a temporary number to receive SMS?
First, choose a country (from the homepage or the Countries page). Then pick an available number marked as online and open its inbox. Copy the full phone number including country code, paste it into the app or website where you need verification, and request the SMS. When the message arrives, refresh the inbox on InstantNum to see it and read your code. For more detail, see our step-by-step guide in the Guides section.
Is it safe to use these numbers for verification?
It is safe for the right use cases. For testing, one-time sign-ups, and non-sensitive verifications, temporary numbers are useful and avoid exposing your real number. They are not safe for banking, account recovery, or any service that holds sensitive dataâbecause the inbox is public and messages can be seen by others. Always use your personal number for important or long-term accounts.
Which countries are supported?
InstantNum offers temporary numbers from many countries worldwide. Use the Countries page to see the full list and select a country. Pick a country that your app or website supportsâmany services only send SMS to certain regions. Numbers are listed by country so you can quickly find the right one for your verification or testing need.
Can I find numbers for a specific app or service?
Yes. The Services page lets you browse temporary numbers by app or serviceâfor example WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Instagram, or Discord. You can search for a service and then choose a country to see numbers that are often used for that app. This makes it easier to get the right type of number for your verification or testing.
