WhatsApp, Telegram, and public numbers
Why messaging apps are picky about which numbers they accept — and what to try when signup fails.
Messaging apps are the most common reason people land on InstantNum. They are also the least predictable.
Why apps push back
WhatsApp and Telegram fight abuse by blocking VOIP and recycled ranges. A number that works for a random website may already be flagged inside WhatsApp.
What sometimes helps
- Use a number from the country where you are “registering”
- Try a less popular line on the list — not always the first one
- Wait a few minutes between attempts; rapid retries trigger anti-fraud
- Complete signup soon after the SMS arrives; codes expire
When to stop trying
If three different numbers fail, the app probably blocks this pool. Continuing wastes time. Use a personal SIM or a paid private virtual number if you genuinely need the account.
Account safety
Even when signup works, anyone with the inbox link can request a new login SMS. Do not treat a public-number WhatsApp as a secure account.
